Laura Dumont took Zoloft, an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) class antidepressant during her pregnancy with Jennifer.

Laura Dumont took Zoloft, an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) class antidepressant during her pregnancy with Jennifer. She was confident in its safety because Pfizer, the manufacturer of the medication, touted it as safe to use during pregnancy.

She had no way of knowing that her beautiful baby girl would undergo open-heart surgery before she reached her first birthday.

Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. Scientific studies have linked SSRI’s similar to Zoloft to numerous birth defects, including life threatening heart defects, as well as Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the newborn (PPHN).

We represent hundreds of families across the nation whose babies were born with birth defects after the mother took an antidepressant during pregnancy. Mothers who have taken antidepressants such as Zoloft during their pregnancy because they thought it was safe have given birth to babies with birth defects ranging from cleft lip to life-threatening congenital heart defects and, in some cases, the babies have been required to get full heart transplants.
